DREADRADIO: John Heard On Triple J Radio - The 'Hack' Program - World Youth Day 2008, Pope Benedict XVI & Catholic Teaching On Homosexuality
:: Update ::
DREADNOUGHT was a featured guest on the Triple J radio network Thursday July 10, 2008. The interview aired as part of the Hack news program.
:: What Does the Pope Teach? ::
DREADNOUGHT spoke about Catholic teaching on human sexuality, and my response (as a same sex attracted Catholic man) to Pope Benedict XVI's statements on homosexual acts. To that end, these topics came up:
- Key teachings from the Catechism - on the acts / person distinction - or how "homosexual acts" are "intrinsically disordered" / and the "inclination" to "homosexual acts" is objectively disordered";
- What the Pope means when he calls the so-called "homosexual condition" (i.e., a strong inclination to "homosexual acts") "objectively disordered";
- Why the Church teaches against "gay marriage";
- What the Vatican has to say about "gay" candidates for the priesthood; and
- Catholic teaching on sexual ethics generally.
Although, the producers eventually narrowed the discussion down to questions about homosexuality and the priesthood.
:: Note ::
Stephen Crittenden, the "religious affairs commentator" who spoke afterwards, regularly intervenes in Australian debates to promote a pro-homoactivist, liberal agenda. His claims about the Australian Church, about young Catholics, and about Catholicism generally should be received with this background in mind.
:: The Upshot ::
Triple J is Australia's pre-eminent youth / student radio network. The Hack is a daily news segment, with lively discussion about national, and international developments / news-makers. Full podcast is available here (4:10).
