DREADCLARITY: Peter Confeggi & John Marsden - Homoactivist's Globetrotting Priest Criticises World Youth Day 2008 For Cost, Nature - Sydney Australia
Something has been made, in the secular media, of the fact that a Sydney priest has criticized the cost, and lamented the "restorationist" nature of World Youth Day 2008. While it seems impressive that a priest would cite social justice in his criticism of the event, the priest in question is not unknown to DREADNOUGHTERS. Indeed, in light of his previous actions in support of homoactivists, good people must ask whether or not Father Peter Confeggi is informed in his criticisms by other, less edifying motives - and less noble allegiances.
:: The Truth ::
For the priest is not primarily known, indeed, as a social justice commentator. In fact, Father Confeggi is much better known here for his actions supporting an immensely wealthy, repeatedly disgraced, Sydney homoactivist, and criminal defence lawyer.
:: Serving Two Masters? ::
Peter Confeggi is, certainly, the same priest who flew (at great expense) to Turkey to be with his infamous, "lifelong friend", John Marsden.* Marsden described himself as a "promiscuous homosexual" and regularly scandalized the Church. He turned most people off, on the political Right and on the Left. Marsden even went so far as to name one of the cancers that killed him after Sydney Archbishop (and World Youth Day organizer) George Cardinal Pell.
:: A Scandal ::
Confeggi is a priest in Sydney's West, and he owes filial devotion to Cardinal Pell. However, he later presided over Marsden's highly irregular, self-aggrandizing funeral Mass. The Mass, which caused a scandal in Sydney, featured eulogies from homoactivists, "gay" sex "poppers" and other drugs, and was the occasion of repeated attacks on Catholic teaching. The Mass followed Marsden's self-penned funeral notice, which listed a long, brazen selection of his of sexual partners.*
:: Moral Clarity ::
No one would choose a team-mate of questionable prudence to call the plays in a football game. He'd be sidelined, and rightly so. Confeggi's brand of "spirituality" was, therefore, never going to be promoted at the Catholic Church's World Youth Day; "restorationist" or otherwise.^ The contrast between his Turkish pilgrimage to Marsden, and the exuberant, orthodox World Youth Day pilgrims could not be more marked: the Church will not be endorsing Marsden's philosophy / lifestyle anytime soon. That's not politics, it's the reality of the Catholic faith.
:: The Upshot ::
The young people who have come in immense numbers to meet with Christ, and listen to the Pope; they are the real story out of Sydney this month.

- Contact Father Confeggi directly, and let him know (lovingly) why you support World Youth Day. DREADNOUGHTERS might yet change his heart; and
- DREADNOUGHT's media availability, World Youth Day 2008.
* (DREADNOUGHT understands the list was shortened by relatives and / or newspaper editors).
^ (Perhaps excessive deference paid to people like Marsden explains why "[t]eams of parishioners now do the work of preparing families for Sacraments; Baptisms, Holy Communion and Confirmation" at Father Confeggi's parish, even though there are three priests, and one sister on the books).
