DREADTV: John Heard On The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Thirty Year Anniversary For News Limited - Beyond Pride, The No-Fun Parade & Coming Out
[UPDATE] 'Moving on' and the 'post-gay' future in fashion, music and youth culture.
:: Update ::
DREADNOUGHT's interview with News Limited for the thirtieth anniversary of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is now live. It is available as part of a comprehensive video package (for Part I, click Pride --> 'Religious Reasoning' / for Part II, click Parade --> 'Moving On') and selected excerpts are included in a telling survey of 'leading gays'. Despite diverse backgrounds, good people everywhere agree that Mardi Gras is heading in the wrong direction.
:: My Journey, My Message ::
The second video deals with 'coming out'. For a more detailed treatment of that issue, see my comments on G. K. Chesterton and the radical challenge of honesty.
:: G'day Mate ::
A very warm welcome to the thousands of new DREADNOUGHTERS who have followed the anniversary coverage to this site. Welcome, especially, to new visitors to Sydney and Australia. You are joining a diverse and enthusiastic collection of Americans, Canadians, Brits, Europeans and Israelis, etc. who visit DREADNOUGHT regularly for discussion, resources and insights into the post-'gay' future. Religious visitors, in particular, are not alone here. So too, seekers of all faiths and none. Many people are looking for hope beyond the cynical politics and anti-Christian spectacle of the no-fun parade. Young people, in particular, yearn for something more, for profundity that trumps the hyper-sexualised culture that contemporary homoactivism too often holds out. We know we are made for more.
:: The Hope of a New Generation ::
Let us join together, in good faith then, to ensure that every contribution same sex attracted men and women make, corporately, to our communities is worthy of our best efforts and their proper admiration. In that way, by being truly committed to achieving the highest standards, to pursuing real social justice for all those who suffer and are vulnerable, we might become a people known for our friendliness and our humility. That kind of hope, this new challenge is preferable to any misguided emphasis on 'pride'.
:: The Upshot ::
In this way, we can transform the Mardi Gras mistake into a real celebration, an opportunity to showcase the special genius: the vibrancy, humanity and diversity of same sex attracted men and women, within the wider human family.
