'In An Army's Strength Therein Lies The Denouement'
Man Boobs Makes Way for the Fat Loser
Ha ha! What tremendous silliness, Mark 'the media are so mean' Latham resigns as ALP leader and leaves politics and Kim 'Not Twice Shy' Beazley puts his hand up. Now, being fat is no good excuse for a man to be disqualified from the leadership and there are many reasons to prefer Kim over Latham, but he just cannot win against Howard/Costello. Here are some more reasons why Beazley as leader represents how far Left wing politics in this nation has slipped:
i) He's already LOST once;
ii) Kevin Rudd is a better choice but he was forced to support Crean during the Iraq war and together they shamed the entire party by becoming the first Opposition to criticise a war after the boys had left home. Plus, the factions want unity and Rudd will face pressure to withdraw his suit and will eventually capitulate;
iii) He's already LOST twice;
iv) His brain has been 'leaking fluid' and thus, he's also not an entirely fit man;
v) This proves there isn't anyone else in the whole nation who could lead the ALP as constituted to an election victory. Not one person. At all. Anywhere. Where are they? Hello? ALP Leaders?
Reasonably crappy 'reasons' I know, but we ALL know why Beazley is not going to be PM, so what the screw is wrong with the ALP? Oh, and watch Whitlam try to make it look like 'a tragic illness' lead to Latham's fall, rather than Mark's complete lack of rigour, nous, political verve, mettle, will-power, etc.
Once again, A MAGNIFICENT TIME TO BE A CONSERVATIVE IN AUSTRALIA! Wee!
Iran
The explosive Hersh article is now online. Both the Whitehouse and the Pentagon claim it is stuffed with errors but they will not rule out a military option. Watch the Lefties rage and rail and watch the rest of the world, particularly Israel, breathe a sigh of relief that the Bushies won't let the mad Mullah's take charge of a doomsday weapon.
Iraq
Eight Chinese contractors have been captured by Islamofascists in Iraq. They were working alongside the uniformed coalition on a civilian project to rebuild the nation. When even the Communists are supporting the post-war effort it shows just how extremist and irrelevant the continued Western Leftist sniping has become.
Catholic Wisdom
A particularly succinct and pointed comment on modern culture from the Vatican's cultural spokes-Cardinal:
Homo Statesman
Great piece by Hilton Als on a new biography of Christopher Isherwood:
Christopher Isherwood
Als and the biographer both appear to think less of Isherwood (author of The Berlin Stories which later became Cabaret as well as some plays with one-time lover, W.H. Auden) than DREADNOUGHT, but perhaps that's because I have great sympathy for a man who wrote mainly about himself, or at least about an abstracted entity which was mostly himself...

"Given a society that is collapsing, it is urgent to find the spiritual as opposed to spiritualism, tradition as opposed to traditionalism, faith as opposed to fideism, morality as opposed to moralism — in a word, the genuine order as opposed to the established disorder!"What a humane, learned and deeply meaningful statement on the kind of things that distract us from the reality of creation. Now that's why I'm a Catholic!
